SSCRIP FAQ’s

SSCRIP logoThe Social Sciences Career Readiness Internship Program (SSCRIP) is seeking applicants who are majoring in the Social Sciences and will be a Junior/Third Year in Fall 2025 or Spring 2026.

SSCRIP is a year-long program designed to provide undergraduate majors in the social sciences with the necessary tools to prepare themselves for the job market.

The program consists of the following integrated components:

  • a Fall semester long 1-unit professional development course: LS198
  • Bi-Weekly required Spring semester activities designed to provide ongoing support to students as they prepare to apply for internships
  • a stipend to cover unpaid or low-paying internships of 6-8 weeks in length.

When is the program application due?

The application opens on Friday, May 9th.

The application deadline for continuing students* is June 6th, 2025 at 11:59pm.

The application deadline for incoming transfer students is August 29th, at 11:59pm.

*Continuing students can also submit an application by the transfer student deadline. Priority for those applying after the first application deadline (June 6) will go to transfer students, and any additional continuing students will be admitted based on availability.

Students Eligible for SSCRIP:

    • Must be a registered student in the Social Sciences Division
    • Must have completed at least three years of coursework, including transfer eligible courses, by the start of the internship in summer 2026, and expect to graduate in Fall 2026 or Spring/Summer 2027
    • Priority will be given to applicants who are Juniors at the time of application
    • First-generation college students, transfer students, and financial aid-eligible students are especially encouraged to apply.

What is the amount of the summer funding stipend?

$6000 for a 6-8 week internship in the United States at 30-40 hours per week. If a student receives payment from the internship organization directly, that amount will be deducted from the $6000 SSCRIP stipend and SSCRIP would then provide any difference.

If the internship a student accepts is paid, how does that impact the SSCRIP stipend?

The amount the student is being paid is subtracted from the $6000 SSCRIP would provide. Whatever that balance is, that would be given to the student.

What does the stipend cover?

It can be used to pay for housing, food, transportation and any other expenses a student might encounter over the 6 to 8-week internship period.

Does SSCRIP match students with an internship?

For some internships, we will work with internship placement partners who will do the matching and placement. For other internships, students will need to identify and apply for the internships on their own, but they will be supported throughout the process with advising, coaching, and access to the SSCRIP roster of internships. This roster will consist of 50+ internships shared by alumni, mostly in the spring semester, and SSCRIP students can apply to those.

Where can I direct students for more information?

We are updating our website and should have application instructions ready by May 9th.
